jodeci, greatest hits

Jodeci

If Boyz II Men are portrayed as a clean-cut, wholesome R&B vocal group, then Jodeci's wild, sexual, bad-boy image represents the other side of the coin. Made up of two sets of brothers, the group's name is a consolidation of three members' aliases: "JoJo" Hailey, Donald "DeVante Swing" DeGrate, and Cedric "K-Ci" Hailey; the group also includes Dalvin DeGrate.

In 1991, they recorded Forever My Lady, which featured the gold single "Come and Talk to Me" and went on to sell over three million copies. A minor feud resulted over the band's follow-up album, Diary of a Mad Band; Jodeci, unhappy with their treatment by Uptown, flirted with the idea of leaving for Dr. Dre's Death Row Records, which resulted in almost zero promotion for their new album.

Jodeci's third album, The Show, the After Party, the Hotel, was released in the summer of 1995. DeVante also was afforded the opportunity to work with Al Green, one of his idols, writing and producing the song "Could This Be the Love." ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide

112, greatest hits

112

Equally rooted in gospel, soul and hip-hop, 112 was the first and most successful urban vocal group to emerge from Sean "Puffy" Combs' Bad Boy Records roster. Not only was the group's eponymous 1996 debut popular, but the group could be heard on records by such Bad Boy artists as Puff Daddy.

The four members of 112 -- Marvin, Daron, Q and Mike -- met each other while attending high school in Atlanta, Georgia. The quartet began to play talent shows at school and local churches, eventually gaining the attention of Courtney Sills and Kevin Wales, who soon became the group's managers. Sills and Wales brought 112 to the attention of Sean "Puffy" Combs at Bad Boy Records. Combs signed on as the executive producer of 112's eponymous debut album, which featured songs the group co-wrote with such professional songwriters as Stevie J, Wayna Morris of Boyz II Men, and Combs himself.

"Only You," the group's debut single, was released in the summer of 1996 and climbed to number three on the R&B charts, peaking at number 13 on the pop charts. 112 was released in late 1996, and it steadily worked its way to gold status as the group's second single, "Come See Me," reached number 15 on the R&B charts. Room 112 followed in 1998 and Part III was issued three years later. The group all but left Bad Boy for 2003's Hot & Wet, and cemented their new relationship with Def Soul on 2005's Pleasure & Pain. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

jagged edge, greatest hits

Jagged Edge

Rough-but-smooth male vocal quartet Jagged Edge formed in Atlanta, consisting of identical twin brothers Brandon "Case Dinero" Casey and Brian "Brasco" Casey, who had moved from their native Hartford, CT; Kyle Norman (aka "Quick"), whom they'd met through church activities; and Richard Wingo (aka "Wingo Dollar"), a late addition to the group suggested by Xscape's Kandi Burruss, who took their demo to superproducer Jermaine Dupri.

Jagged Edge signed to Dupri's So So Def label and in the summer of 1997 released their debut single, "The Way That You Talk," featuring appearances by Dupri and Da Brat; it reached the Top 40 of the R&B chart and was also a pop chart entry.

Early in 1998, Jagged Edge released their first album, A Jagged Era, which went gold and spawned the Top 20 R&B, Top 40 pop hit "Gotta Be." Their next single, "He Can't Love U," appeared in the fall of 1998 and reached the Top Five of the R&B chart and the Top 20 of the pop chart, going gold in the process.

It prefaced the group's second album, J.E. Heartbreak, which topped the R&B chart and hit the Top Ten of the pop chart, selling over 2,000,000 copies and spawning the number one R&B hits "Let's Get Married" (also Top 20 pop) and "Promise" (also Top Ten pop).

By the time of the release of Jagged Edge's third album, Jagged Little Thrill, in late June 2001, its leadoff single, "Where the Party At" (featuring Nelly), was nearing the R&B Top Ten and was in the pop Top 40. 2003's Hard and 2006's Jagged Edge followed. ~ John Bush & William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide

dru hill, greatest hits

Dru Hill

High-school friends Jazz, Sisqo, Nokio, and Woody formed Dru Hill in 1995; named in honor of their Baltimore neighborhood, Druid Hill Park. The rappers performed at the music-industry convention Impact '96 and were signed by Island not long after.

By late 1996, Dru Hill had released its self-titled debut album, produced by Keith Sweat, Stanley Brown, and Tim "Dawg" Patterson. The single "Tell Me" -- culled from the soundtrack to the film Eddie -- became a Top Five R&B hit and later went gold. Enter the Dru followed in 1998, peaking at number two on the Billboard album chart.

Despite Sisqo's solo success with "Thong Song," the group continued intact -- along with new member Skola -- and issued Dru World Order in 2002, two years after it was initially slated for release. The Hits compilation followed in 2005, eventually reaching three million in sales. ~ John Bush, All Music Guide

k-ci & jojo, greatest hits

K-Ci & Jojo

Cedric and Joel Hailey comprise the romantic R&B duo K-Ci & JoJo, who were one of two pairs of brothers that made up the chart-topping '90s group Jodeci, together with the DeGrate brothers, Dalvin and "DeVante Swing".

The brothers made their side project into a full-fledged collaboration with the release of their debut album, Love Always, in 1997. The lead single, "You Bring Me Up," was a Top Ten R&B hit, and the follow-up, "Last Night's Letter," was also successful. But the single that really broke them big was the sweet ballad "All My Life," which went all the way to number one on both the pop and R&B charts in early 1998.

K-Ci & JoJo assembled a follow-up album, It's Real, which stuck closely to the sound of its predecessor. It was another platinum-selling hit, and another smash single in "Tell Me It's Real". The Haileys celebrated ten years in the recording industry with 2000's X, their third straight platinum album, which spun off the near-Top Ten pop hit "Crazy".

They also released their fourth album, Emotional, in late 2002, but initial sales returns failed to duplicate the success of its predecessors. In 2008, they released their fifth album called, "Love” and was released in Japan only on February 6. The album will be released in the United States later in the year. ~ Steve Huey, All Music Guide.

aku, penang & buah pala

Seperti yg dijanjikan hari tu, sedikit coretan perjalanan aku tulis ketika aku outstation ke pulau pinang pada 3 – 7 julai lepas, sempena matta fair penang yg telah diadakan di penang international sports arena (pisa) 4 – 6 julai.

3 julai 2008 – khamis

Huuh dasat jugak road trip kali nih.

Perjalanan kuantan ke penang ni aku amik masa 7 jam lebih. Ni termasuklah 4 kali aku berhenti rehat kat gambang (berhenti breakfast), genting sempah (pergi toilet), tapah (lunch time) & taiping (ngantuk ler.. aku tido kejap kat situ). Drive sorang ni bagi yg tak biasa memang ler boring yg teramat, tapi aku ok ajer. Sambil nak hilang boring tu, aku berkaraokelah bersama lagu2 yg diputarkan dlm cd player ku. Yg tak best nye, aku tak dpt nak menikmati sepenuhnya panorama & pemandangan cantik sepanjang perjalanan ni, pasal kena konsentret lebih masa driving.

Aku sampai kat area jambatan p pinang, pukul 2.30 ptg. Masa lalu kat atas jambatan tu, perghh sikit punya teruja… bawak kereta lintas laut tuhh… panjang pulak tuh. Kemudian (tanpa sesat & salah jalan) aku terus check in kat hotel seri malaysia penang kat area bayan baru. Hotel ni dekat aje ngan pisa, tempat matta exhibition tu diadakan, 5 minit ajer kalau drive. Hotel ni ada free wi-fi, tapi kat bilik aku tuh signal dia cuma dapat kat luar bilik ajer… dlm bilik ada setelit channel, dpt ler tgk channel espn, cinemax , astro ria…

Lepas check in, aku lepak berehat dlm bilik. Pukul 6.30 ptg, aku bersiap ke pisa, nak pergi set up booth kat sana. Resort tempat aku kerja ni, join sekali ngan booth bawah pahang tourism… adalah sekali ngan geng2 travel agent dr taman negara, pine resort fraser hill, strawberry park cameron highland & residence inn cherating.

Lepas siap2 set up booth tuh aku pun telefon ler satu2nya member aku yg ader kat penang nih, syelly namanya. Dia kerja ngan tourism malaysia penang chapter, opis dia kat komtar. Kira minah ni one of the bosses kat situ ler, kitaorg sama2 belajar kat itm shah alam dulu… amik diploma in tourism mgmt tahun 96 – 99. So mlm ni dia jadik aku punya tour guide ler… bawak aku jalan2 pusing penang.

Pukul 9.00 mlm, aku pun gerak amik dia kat umah… terus dia pandu arah kpd aku… kitaorg pegi gurney drive. Kitaorg dinner kat food court situ, aku makan char kueh teow (pergghh best giler..) & minum air tebu freshhh. Perut dah kenyang, kitaorg gerak pulak ke destinasi kegemaran aku pada trip kali ini… batu feringgi. Kat sana tiap2 mlm ada pasar mlm… night market ni sepanjang jln kat depan area hotel kat situ. Tarikan utama pada aku kat situ ialh gerai2 yg menjual dvd & audio cd (pirate!) hahahaaa… murah giler beb! rm4.00 aje satu perghh.. inilah tempat paling murah kat malaysia yg jual dvd2 pirate nih. Setelah habis membeli (tak abis beli lagi sebenarnya… tapi diaorg dah nak tutup.. pukul 12tgh mlm dah) kami pun pulang dgn hati yg girang yeyeee…

4 julai 2008 – jumaat

Bangun, pegi breakfast kat coffee house pukul 9.00 pagi. Matta fair start pun pukul 5.00 ptg… jadi aktiviti utama tidor.. zzzzz. Ptg tu sampai ler dekat pukul 9 mlm aku kat matta fair penang di pisa. Org kira ramai lah jugak yg dtg usher tgk2 pakej pelancongan yg ditawarkan kat sini… tapi kebanyakkannya suka pegi ke outbound section, iaitu beli pakej2 international… melancong ke luar negara. Pelik jugak, time2 gawat ni diaorg lebih suka mengabiskan duit kat oversea lah pulak.

Kebetulan masa kat matta fair hari tuh, aku terjumpa ngan member satu class ngan aku & syelly masa kat itm dulu.. sharon namanya… dr kota kinabalu.. dia dtg ngan 2 org opis mate dia (corina & emily) dr kk… dtg jual pakej utk travel agent tempat dia kerja kat sana.

Aku yg sememangnya tak puas shopping dvd semalam, terus aje mengajak diaorg ikut aku pergi shopping lagi kat bt feringgi night market malam tuh. Kira hari ni aku pulak ler jadik tour guide kat bebudak sabah tuh.. Best jugak lepak ngan diaorg nih.. kepala masing2 sempoi giler… dan macam2 jugak ler perkataan baru yg tak pernah aku dengar dpt aku pelajari mlm tuh… Contoh nya sisip (maknanya cilok) huhuhuuu…

Masa kitaorg tgh makan malam kat gerai lepas abis ajer shopping kat bt feringgi mlm tuh, kitaorg terserempak ngan zizan. Alah mamat raja lawak yg sekarang tgh popular ngan game show ‘bolos’ kat astro ria tuh. Yg si corina ni boleh pulak dia mengajuk aksi si zizan nih… ‘bersedia atau tidak.. bolos saja lubang ituuuuu..’.. heheheee…. Dah penat balik ke hotel…tido.

5 julai 2008 – sabtu

Hari kedua kat matta fair penang, tak ader ape yg menarik utk diceritakanlah… aku cuma sibuk mengedarkan flyer sambil cuba menjual ubat… utk jual pakej yg aku promote time tuh…Kalau boring2 aku pun buat2 ler lawak ngan member satu booth ngan aku tuh.. gelak2 kan org yg lalu lalang… huhh disturbed person betol lah aku nih.

Mlm tuh si syelly free, lalu dia pun mengajak ler kitaorg (aku, sharon & corina) keluar jln2 mlm tuh melihat kehidupan kota penang ketika saturday nite. Mlm tuh syelly belanja kitaorg dinner kat chinese foodfourt di padang kota lama aka tmn esplanade. Kitaorg makan char koew tiow (pergghh yg ni lagi sedap dari yg kat gurney drive itu hari) dan jugak udang goreng tepung & lala masak aper tah aku pun tak ingat tapi rasanya best giler.

Lepas makan kitaorg cuma pusing2 bandar georgetown… tgk org penang pegi happening mlm minggu kat area upper penang road, kat situ banyak ler tempat2 clubbing yg memenuhi citarasa remaja kini…kuikuikuiiii. Penat pusing2 pulau, balik bilik, tido.

6 julai 2008 – ahad

Last day matta fair penang, aktiviti macam biasak ler… kasik flyer kat org ramai sambil memberi sikit info pasal resort tempat gua kerje nih… ramai lah jugak yg interested nak dtg… tapi biasa lah… faktor jarak yg buat ramai boring tuh… drive kereta ajer 7 jam baru sampai… tapi boleh naik flight…. Firefly skrang ada direct flight everyday penang – kuantan.

Mlm tuh aku kemas tutup booth kat pukul 8.30 mlm, then terus aku ajak bebudak sabah tu pergi last shopping kat batu feringgi… Diaorg kata ok jer… lepas siap mandi, kami pun gerak ler ke batu feringgi (masuk ni 3 kali ler aku pergi bt feringgi dlm masa 4 mlm nih).

Sampai kat sana, aku pesan kat budak2 nih jgn kacau, aku nak shopping dvd habis habisan mlm nih… pergi ler mana2 pun korang nak pergi… kalau nak balik ajer baru carik aku. Maka bermulalah mission malam terakhir kat penang ni utk memborong dvd. Utk 3 malam aku kat bt feringgi nih… aku kira adalah 25 bijik dvd & cd audio pirate yg aku beli… huhuuu habis duit aku… takpe janji aku puassss….

7 julai 2008 – isnin

Hari terakhir kat penang, bangun awal sikit pagi tuh pukul 7 pagi… bebudak sabah tuh nak mintak aku tolong antor kan diaorg ke jetty… hari nih diaorg nak pergi jln2 ke langkawi… balik hari jer, coz flight balik ke kk hari selasa.

Lepas check out, aku telefon syelly mintak dia temankan aku pegi cari buah pala utk dijadikan ole – ole bawak balik ke kuantan nanti. Amik syelly kat bawah komtar, kemudian terus kitaorg ke pasar chowrasta, penang road. Kat situ ler boleh dpt banyak jual buah pala dan bermacam2 jenis asam. Lepas beli belah kat chowrasta, kami pun berjalan sikit pegi minum cendol yg famous kat penang nih… tempat dia kat satu lorong area penang road. Mmmm memang best ler cendol tuh…

Lepas makan cendol, aku pun hantar syelly kat komtar, then aku meneruskan lah perjalanan balik aku ke kuantan ptg tu jugak, kira2 pukul 2 lebih. Perjalanan balik sama lah jugak macam journey dtg ke penang tempoh hari… Aku berhenti kat 3 tempat rehat… masa berhenti kat taiping, aku tido dlm kereta.. dekat 1 jam jugak ler aku tido.. ngantuk wooo… bahaya kalau drive.

Aku selamat sampai kat kuantan kira2 pukul 11 malam.

Itulah serba sikit coretan masa aku ke penang tempoh hari, harap2 korang tak boring ler baca yek.

Chow!
